Job 16:5 says, “But I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the moving of my lips should asswage your grief.” Job was in a desperate situation and his friends were not helping him. As a matter of fact, he called them “miserable comforters” in verse two. They were so busy trying to solve his problems that they failed to strengthen his person. Instead of appeasing and asswaging his grief, they were adding to it. People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. There is a place for corrective words, but they always come on the heels of comforting words. There are hurting souls all around us who need some strengthing words today. If we are going to make a difference in the lives of people, we must learn the importance of building people through positive speech.
