Does God Really Answer Prayers?

I say yes, yes, yes!  I John 5:14 says, “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us.”  God does hear and answer prayer.  The decision to start a church has also simultaneously started a spiritual growth in our family.  Let me illustrate an answer to prayer that recently took place our lives.  We had been needing new front tires on our car for quite awhile.  I had priced them and knew that they would cost around 180.00.  We did not have that money, so we began to pray.  We had already been using the car for trips related to the church plant and I knew that we would start deputation soon.  We prayed specifically for several weeks, but no money came in and the tires grew balder and balder.  Finally at the end of a long trip, during which I had prayed often for safety because of the condition of the tires, I told Sheila that we would have to buy tires the next week.  It was too dangerous to continue.  That Sunday morning we celebrated Pastor Appreciation Sunday at our church.  We had been gathering money for a special gift for our pastor.  At the conclusion of the service, I recognize our pastor and his wife and gave them the gift.  As I was about to close in prayer, a man in our church came up on the platform and announced that the church also wanted to give my family some nice things.  The gift contained a gas card, a food card, and enough money to stay in a hotel as well as buy the new tires that we needed. As we drove home from church that day, we were overwhelmed at the realness of God.  He does hear!  He does answer!  Praise God!  This church plant is according to his will and we have confidence that He will meet every need along the way.
