Opportunities or Obstacles?

I Corinthians 16:9 says, “For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries.”  When God began to move in our hearts about starting a church, we had two reactions.  One was to become very excited about the opportunity; the other was to get very worried about the obstacles.  Paul realized that the Lord had opened a great door to him, but he also was discerning enough to understand that there would be many adversaries to try to stop him.  I am learning that perspective is everything.  What I choose to focus on will determine my attitude and my actions.  If I constantly look at the difficulties of starting a church from scratch, I will become worried and upset.  If I turn my eyes to the Lord and by faith see what He can do, then I will be calm and peaceful.  The decision is mine.  Sheila and I know that the journey we are on is not an easy one.  We are aware of the barriers that will come into our path.  However, we choose to live by faith.  We may not have the security that we once had, but the opportunities to see God break through and become real to us have been truly amazing.  We would not go back for anything!
